Gold Ridge sits on the Travis Air Force Base side of Fairfield, a residential area of tract houses on quiet streets, with One Lake just beyond its edge. The neighborhood has no shopping strip of its own, so its character comes from the housing, the park and the base next door. Houses here are detached and tract-built, with garages facing the street and small fenced yards that are well kept, and the blocks are tidy and uniform. Nothing about the housing is dated or flashy. It reads as a place built to be lived in. Gary Falati Neighborhood Park, on Falati Lane, has a splash play area, a gazebo, barbecues, a basketball court and walking paths, and it is the neighborhood's social center on warm weekends. One Lake, about 200 yards past the boundary, adds a lake setting and a cafe, and Travisville Park, a bit farther toward the base, is a second park option. Casa Dulce Desserts is the sweet stop inside the neighborhood. Journey Coffee Co.'s One Lake Cafe, on One Lake Drive, serves beans the company roasts itself, and Mahogany Soul serves soul food in the strip of restaurants near the base gate. There is no grocery inside the neighborhood, so shopping means driving to one of the bigger shopping streets, and Air Base Parkway carries traffic toward the interstate. Walking is mostly for the park and the lake, not for errands. Travis is the city's largest employer, and its shift times shape traffic at the nearest intersections. Flights from the base are part of the daily soundtrack in Gold Ridge, so anyone sensitive to noise should visit at several hours of the day before deciding. The area has the rhythm of a place near a working airfield, from morning traffic at the gate to engines overhead in the afternoon.
