Lagoon Valley is a park-dominated piece of Vacaville, and most of what is here is open land built around a lake. This page is closer to a guide to the park than to a typical neighborhood, because the public land is the main attraction. Lagoon Valley Park and the Peña Adobe Regional Park area together spread over several hundred acres, with hills rising behind the lake. A flat paved path rings Lagoon Lake, easy enough for a stroller or a run, and anglers cast from the shore while paddlers launch non-motorized boats. Hiking and biking trails climb into the hills for views across the valley. A dog park, a disc golf course and an archery area share the grounds, and Hume Grove is the shady place to picnic. A historic adobe from the early 1840s gives the park its roots, and the house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A tree swing on the grounds is a favorite photo stop, and the open slopes make the park feel bigger than its place beside the freeway suggests. For food and coffee, you drive out of the park. Journey Coffee Co., out on Alamo Drive, is the nearest specialty coffee shop, and Starbucks sits along the same stretch. A Walmart Neighborhood Market handles groceries. All of these sit under a mile from the park boundary. Interstate 80 runs right beside the park, which makes it simple to find. The gates keep set hours rather than staying open all night, so check them before planning a sunset walk. Lagoon Valley has no services on site, so bring water and pick up coffee or food on the way in. Early morning or evening is the best time to see the lake calm. Lagoon Valley gives Vacaville a place for slow weekend mornings that does not require leaving town.
