Newman is a Stanislaus County farm town where the day revolves around Main Street and the two blocks of N Street that cross it, with State Route 33 passing through on its way from Patterson down to Gustine. Main Street keeps most of what a household needs within a few minutes, and the street holds a cluster of Mexican restaurants. Older streets sit near Main, and newer subdivisions have been added toward the edges. Street names in the newer parts hint at waterfowl, with Cinnamon Teal Way and Duckblind Circle each home to a small park. Parks are the outdoor routine here, and the town keeps a long list of them. Pioneer Park on R Street and Sherman Park on Cinnamon Teal Way are two of them. The Newman Community Dog Park sits on Marapole Lane. The Newman Public Library is in town too, and Westside Valley Theatres shows movies without a trip to Modesto. For food, Santi's Mexican Grill and El Campestre Dos are both on Main Street, and Good Times serves American plates on the same street. Crema y Nata, a cafe on Fresno Street, is where the coffee drinkers go. Taqueria El Naranjo on Fresno Street and Taqueria Carolina's on Main fill out the taco options, and The Old Corner Bar has a patio and a full bar for the evening. Groceries come from Newman Food Center and Diamond Food Center, plus Carniceria Dos Aguas for meat. Starbucks and a handful of fast-food names line N Street, which doubles as State Route 33 through town, so a quick breakfast or a drive-through dinner never requires leaving Newman. Near Main you can run errands on foot or by bike, and everything else is by car. Commuters take that same highway north to Patterson or head for Interstate 5 a few miles west. The honest limit is size. Specialty shopping and hospitals mean a drive to Modesto. Come fall, the festival gives Newman Main Street its busiest weekend of the year.
