North Turlock is the planned, newer end of the city, a set of subdivisions laid out under a master plan that set aside roughly 370 acres for connected neighborhoods. It sits on the northern side of the city, with Northwest Turlock and Northeast Turlock on either side. Homes here blend one-level and two-level houses, many newly built or recently remodeled, in tracts that were meant to link up as neighborhoods instead of standing as isolated lots. Updated kitchens and modern finishes show up often in the older tracts. Construction keeps arriving, including a modern townhome proposal and an approval for more than a hundred additional houses, so the edges of North Turlock are still being drawn. Park space is modest but real. Ferreira Ranch Park on Sandy Way and Brad Bates Park are the public greens, Balboa Park belongs to its homeowners association, and the Turlock BMX Park, also called Walnut Basin, has three levels of jumps from beginner to advanced. For something bigger, Donnelly Park and Pedretti Park in Northwest Turlock lie a few minutes away by car. Inside the neighborhood there is little to eat, so dinner means driving a few minutes. Roth SocialHouse and The Market at Roth sit on Hotel Drive in Northwest Turlock, and the Monte Vista Avenue corridor stacks up newer arrivals such as Wienerschnitzel at Monte Vista Crossings. Corvelos Portuguese Bakery on Countryside Drive is the usual pastry stop, and Stan State and its library are close to the west side. Daily life is car-based. Highway 99 and Monte Vista Avenue carry most trips, and bus service is minimal. The tradeoff for the quiet streets is that nothing here is a walk-to errand. The master plan is still filling in, so how North Turlock looks in a few years will depend on which of the approved projects gets built first.
