Old Town is where Suisun City began, and Main Street is still its front door. The Suisun-Fairfield Amtrak depot, built in 1914, stands on Main, and Harbor Plaza lies close by, where Main meets Solano Street at the water's edge. Housing here is the oldest in the city. A few Victorians, some dating to the 1880s, stand among duplexes, later houses and newer infill, so one street can hold several eras. Not every house has been restored, and some blocks mix homes with storefronts and parking lots. The waterfront is the main outdoor space. Harbor Plaza has a raised stage, a gazebo and grass beside the promenade, and in summer it hosts a Sunday market, Saturday concerts and movie nights. The Grizzly Island Trail and the city marina are a short walk toward the slough, and Rush Ranch is about two miles south. Culture is local too, with the Harbor Theatre and the Lawler House art gallery, a ranch house built in 1857 that was later moved to Main Street. Local places carry the food scene. The Maple Bar Cafe on Main Street draws a weekend line for waffles and brunch plates. Bab's Delta Diner serves omelets, biscuits and gravy and a corned beef hash, and Athenian Grill next door does gyros, dolmades and housemade baklava. True Symmetry Brewing pours English and Belgian styles in the Marina Center, and Every Little Thing Jamaican nearby sells jerk chicken and oxtail, closing on Saturdays. Getting around is easier here than anywhere else in the city. The restaurants, the depot and the plaza are within a few minutes on foot, and Capitol Corridor trains stop at the depot for Oakland and Sacramento. Groceries are less convenient, with 3J's Asian Market close by and Raley's a drive away on Sunset Avenue. Event days bring cars and noise, and parking fills near the plaza. On an ordinary evening in Old Town, the same streets are quiet and the harbor lights come on.
