Lawler Ranch is where Suisun City's streets give way to Suisun Marsh. The parkway of the same name runs along the edge of that open wetland, and from the paths you can look out over grass and sloughs instead of more rooftops. The housing is a planned-community mix of single-family homes and some townhomes, built from 1989 into the early 2000s. It is a settled, uniform kind of neighborhood, with blocks that were developed in phases and look it. Lawler Ranch Park runs about ten acres along the parkway, with playgrounds, picnic tables, open grass and a walking trail beside the marsh. Lawler Falls Park is smaller and has a pond with little waterfalls, picnic tables and free parking, but no restrooms. McCoy Creek Park adds more green along the creek line, and the Grizzly Island Trail on the waterfront is a drive away. Black Bear Diner and Ohana Hawaiian BBQ round out the sit-down options a block or so over, and the Suisun City Library and Kroc Center are a few minutes away in Heritage Park. The shopping area along Lawler Center Drive is the practical center of the neighborhood. Fish on Fire Ramen and Sushi Bar serves Japanese food there, Sisig Restaurant brings Filipino dishes, and Suisun Seafood Center is the grocery for fish and Asian pantry items. The Walmart at Walters Road and Highway 12 covers general errands, with Raley's close by on Sunset Avenue. Daily life leans on the car, and the paved paths along the parkway are where the walking happens. A few errands can be reached on foot from the nearest blocks, but most trips go out to Highway 12, then on to Interstate 80 or into Fairfield. Everything beyond the parks is arranged around parking lots, which is the tradeoff for having the shopping so close. The payoff is the view at the end of the parkway, where the marsh is the first thing in sight.
