Park West, Culver City, CA

Park West is a walkable pocket of Culver City where 1940s bungalows and Spanish-style houses sit a few blocks from Culver City High School and a short, busy stretch of Sepulveda Boulevard restaurants. It has a small-town feel for somewhere so central, with coffee, dinner and a gym all reachable on foot. Most homes are single-family houses from the 1940s and 1950s. Some bungalows still carry their original details, others are thoroughly updated midcentury houses, and Spanish-style homes turn up throughout. Duplexes and small apartment buildings fill in along the busier streets. Coombs Park is the small green space inside Park West, and the Culver-Palms Family YMCA on Sepulveda covers the workouts. Veterans Memorial Park is nearby across Overland Avenue, with the Culver City Plunge and the annual Fiesta La Ballona, and it's where most longer walks and weekend outings go. Sepulveda is the neighborhood's main street. Tanner's Coffee Co. is the local coffee stop and the place people settle in with a laptop. El Rincon Criollo serves Cuban plates, and Pho Show handles weeknight noodle cravings. Grey Block Pizza and the Vinoteque wine bar keep the block busy after dark. Errands are easy. Ralphs and Pavilions are both a short drive for groceries, and the flat streets make biking practical for most trips. Downtown Culver City and the E Line are close enough for a bike ride, and Culver City High School sits right on Elenda Street. The tradeoff is Sepulveda itself. In Park West the morning coffee, the evening workout and a Cuban dinner all sit within a few blocks of each other, so the car can stay parked for days at a time.
