Architecturally it runs to grand period houses on well-tended lots, with a cohesion and pride of maintenance that hold remarkably steady block to block. As its own municipality, it pairs small-town calm with quick access to Oakland's amenities. Parks and schools are the twin pillars. Piedmont Park anchors the center with walking trails, picnic areas, and a creek, while Dracena Quarry Park, Crocker Park, and Hampton Field add playgrounds, tennis courts, and open fields. The public schools, Piedmont High and Piedmont Middle among them, are the reason a great many buyers tour here first, and they shape the rhythm of the whole community.
