This central pocket sits just north of Old Town along Elk Grove-Florin Road, in the orbit of Elk Grove Regional Park and the city's original aquatics center. Bond Road runs the northern edge and Elk Grove-Florin the east, which puts the lake, the ballfields, and the everyday civic spine of the older town close by. The draw is that park access. Elk Grove Regional Park, with its lake, Strauss Island, and swim center, is right up Elk Grove-Florin Road, and the Bond Road corridor adds still more recreation. The housing is established and central, with a more settled, gridded feel than the master-planned west side. The tradeoff is age and traffic. This is an older, more central part of town, so upkeep varies block to block and the arterials carry real volume. But for a neighborhood built around one of Elk Grove's genuine outdoor anchors, with the regional park and its lake essentially next door, the Sharkey Avenue area trades polish for being close to the good stuff.
