Shepherd Canyon follows a narrow, wooded ravine that climbs northeast from Highway 13 toward Skyline Boulevard. Homes line Shepherd Canyon Road and perch on zig-zagging spurs like Chelton Drive and Banning Drive, hugging steep, tree-covered slopes. Architecture ranges from 1940s chalets and mid-century contemporaries to a sprinkling of newer custom builds, nearly all positioned for filtered canyon or bay peeks through towering redwoods and eucalyptus. Streets lack continuous sidewalks, yet traffic is light, and the flat rail-trail makes stroller loops easy. Daily life feels woodsy and low-key.
