South Poway holds the working half of the city. Everything south of Poway Road and west of Midland Road falls inside it, from the civic center and the branch library to the South Poway Business Park, which fills the flats along Scripps Poway Parkway with offices, warehouses and light industry. Homes are concentrated in the northern band, on residential streets between Poway Road and the business park and around the civic center. They are mostly single-family houses in the ranch and tract styles common across the city. Farther south, the land turns to industrial buildings and then to the foothills at the city limit. The open space here surprises people. Poway Community Park covers 28 acres on Civic Center Drive, and a skate park and dog park sit on the same grounds. The Kumeyaay-Ipai Interpretive Center preserves an archaeological village site with 'ewaas, ramadas and a milling station, open for tours on the third Saturday of each month. Above the business park, the South Poway Trail runs about nine miles across grassland hills, with staging at Metate Lane and near Beeler Creek, and a side trip reaches a natural pond. The Beeler Canyon Trail links the system to San Diego's trails to the west. Food leans toward lunch for the business park crowd and dinner along Poway Road. Ju Feng Yuan Dumpling Cafe, in a center on Scripps Poway Parkway, made San Diego Magazine's 2026 rundown of where locals eat. Brigantine, the San Diego seafood group dating to 1969, serves its fish tacos and grilled swordfish on Poway Road. Idego Coffee, a small family roaster, pours sweet, approachable coffees nearby, and MexicanBar is one of the newer arrivals at the west end. Daily errands are simple. Stater Bros. and Smart and Final sit on Poway Road, the branch library sits close to the civic center, and Scripps Poway Parkway is the main route out toward Interstate 15. Much of the land is business park, with loading docks and big parking lots, and those blocks go quiet and empty after hours. The trails above the business park are the part most people miss, and those who find them tend to make the South Poway grasslands a regular evening walk.
