Vallejo Old City is the historic heart of the city, the older grid just back from downtown and the waterfront where Vallejo first grew. It carries some of the best of the city's early architecture, with Victorian and early-1900s homes lining a walkable street pattern, and it sits close to everything downtown offers: the ferry, Georgia Street, the marina, and the everyday services that make it one of the more connected pockets in town. Highland Elementary serves the area, with Vallejo High as the assigned high school. This is where Vallejo's history is most visible, and for the right buyer that is the entire appeal. The honest counterweight is that the Old City is uneven. Beautifully restored homes sit on the same map as blocks that have not turned the corner, the housing is old and needs old-house attention, and upkeep varies sharply street to street. You are buying location and character, close to the water and the historic core, with the rough edges that come attached.
