Walnut Wood is ranked #20 of 22 neighborhoods in Rancho Cordova with an overall score of 2.2/5. It ranks 6th of 21 in Rancho Cordova for schools. The trade-offs are safety (1.4/5) and public spaces (2.7/5).
Walnut Wood spreads along the Sunrise Boulevard corridor in the central part of the city, a primarily suburban neighborhood that the commercial spine of Sunrise runs straight through. That gives it convenience and noise in the same breath. The residential blocks are older, single-family and steady, with the retail, services and fast-food strip of Sunrise Boulevard woven into the neighborhood rather than tucked off to the side. Highway 50 and the light rail up on Folsom Boulevard are both a short drive, keeping the daily commute manageable. The obvious tradeoff is the arterial: living near a busy commercial boulevard means traffic and the streetscape that comes with it. But for buyers who want everything on Sunrise within a couple of minutes and do not mind the bustle, Walnut Wood keeps errands close and prices reasonable.
