West Texas follows Texas Street out from downtown Fairfield, and it reads as a working corridor more than a quiet enclave. Fast-food stops, taquerias and small shops share the road with older houses on the side streets, all lined up along a single long stretch of pavement. Between the Rotary Skatepark and the skate park at Allan Witt, skateboarders have two places to ride close to each other. Housing on those side streets is older and modest, a mix of single-story houses with a scattering of duplexes, on flat blocks that suit a bike. There is not much new construction, and the feel is practical rather than polished. A block or two off Texas Street, the traffic noise drops and the streets settle into a normal residential pace. Allan Witt Community Park, on West Texas Street, is the big one, with an aquatics complex, sports fields and courts, a skate park and a playground. The Fairfield-Suisun Rotary Skatepark and West Texas Street Park are close by, and McNaughton Park sits just over the line in downtown. Llamas Grill Tacos is the taco stop in the neighborhood, and Chick-fil-A draws the lunch lines. Jalapeños, a Salvadoran restaurant on West Texas Street, sits just across the line in downtown, and Dutch Bros. Is the nearby coffee window. The Missouri Street Theatre and the Downtown Theatre are a few hundred yards off for a night out. FoodMaxx and La Charrita Market are the nearest grocery stops, Delhi Bazar adds Indian groceries, and the Fairfield Civic Center Library is close. Most errands can be done on or near the same street, though the crossings are wide enough that many people drive anyway. Texas Street traffic is constant, and the noise follows you onto the side streets. Everything lines up along one road, so getting your bearings in West Texas takes about a day.
