Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review
Key Words: Vintage Apartments, Beach Path, Urban Coastal

Alamitos Beach is the dense, walkable stretch of Long Beach between downtown and Belmont Heights, laid out in the 1920s and still defined by that era's two- and three-story apartment buildings and Craftsman bungalows. It is one of the few genuinely urban beach neighborhoods on this part of the coast: you can live in a vintage courtyard apartment a few blocks from the sand, walk to dinner, and skip the car for days. The shoreline here is wide and calm, with a beach path that runs for miles toward Belmont Shore. Broadway and Fourth carry much of the local dining and nightlife, and the neighborhood has long been a heart of the city's LGBTQ community. The honest tradeoff is density and tenure: this is mostly apartments and condos, parking is a daily negotiation, and it trades quiet for being in the middle of things. If you want walkable, affordable proximity to the water, few places match it.
