Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review
Key Words: Canal Islands, Rivo Alto, Gondola Town

Naples is the most romantic address in Long Beach, three small islands set in Alamitos Bay and laced with canals, conceived in the early 1900s as an Italian-style dream village. The signature feature is the water: the semicircular Rivo Alto Canal rings the main island, lined with a walking path and the docks of waterfront homes, and gondolas still glide the canals just as the developers promised more than a century ago. The streets carry Italian names and a dense, walkable mix of cottages, Mediterranean villas, and rebuilt waterfront homes, with the shops and restaurants of Second Street a short stroll across the bridge. It is one of the most coveted and expensive neighborhoods in the city. The tradeoffs are real estate priced for the setting, small lots, and summer crowds drawn to the canals. For buyers who want to live on the water with a gondola passing the back patio, nothing else in Long Beach compares.
