Bixby Knolls is the cultural anchor of north-central Long Beach, an established neighborhood of wide, planted streets and 1920s-to-1940s homes in Tudor, Spanish, Mediterranean, and Craftsman styles, many on oversized lots. Its main street is Atlantic Avenue, a revitalized corridor of independent coffee shops, restaurants, breweries, and boutiques that hosts the monthly First Fridays art walk and gives the neighborhood a real center of gravity. Lots here run larger than in the older beach districts, and the architecture draws buyers who want character without paying coastal prices. The neighborhood is car-oriented away from the Atlantic strip, and a few edges back up to busier arterials and the 405.
