Downtown Vallejo is where the city actually faces the water. The ferry terminal runs straight to San Francisco, which is the single most important thing about living here: it is one of the only places in the North Bay with a true commute by boat. Georgia Street is the spine, running from the older blocks down to the marina, lined with restaurants, breweries, and the kind of local businesses that come and go but keep the street alive. The waterfront hosts the farmers market and the events that pull the rest of the city in on weekends. Housing is a mix of old Vallejo: early-1900s homes, some Victorians, and a handful of newer units closer to the water. The honest part is that downtown is still uneven block to block. The energy and the architecture are real, and so are the rough storefronts and the stretches that have not turned the corner yet. If you want walkability and the ferry over a polished suburban street, this is the trade, and for a certain buyer it is the most interesting part of Vallejo.
