Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review

Gardner Mountain wears a lumberman's name: Matthew Gardner logged the south shore in the 1870s and 1880s and built the only standard-gauge logging railroad in the Tahoe Basin to haul the timber out. The forest that grew back is now the neighborhood's back fence, with trails leaving from the edge of the grid toward Pope Beach and the Camp Richardson corridor. For bike-first households that geography is the entire pitch: the Pope-Baldwin bike path and the beaches are a short pedal away, and summer here is best measured in tire miles. The stock is modest cabins and ranches with newer infill, and it stays noticeably calmer than the corridor neighborhoods across Highway 89. You are a long way from Heavenly and the Stateline scene, and winter makes the west side feel farther. Summer is when it wins, and it wins by a lot.
