Greenbriar is small, tucked-away, and easy to miss if you are not looking for it. Sitting up off Castro Ranch Road on Richmond's eastern edge, it is a compact hillside neighborhood of larger, spread-out homes with the kind of quiet that only comes from being a little removed from through-traffic. Yards tend to be roomy and the streets stay residential, with green slopes filling in the gaps. The outdoor access is the headline. Kennedy Grove Regional Recreation Area and the San Pablo Reservoir sit nearby off San Pablo Dam Road, putting hiking trails, shaded picnic groves, and reservoir fishing within a few minutes of home. For anyone who wants weekends built around the outdoors, the location is hard to beat. The flip side is the isolation that makes it so quiet. There is very little inside Greenbriar itself in the way of shops or services, so you are driving down to San Pablo Dam Road or the Appian Way corridor for groceries and errands. It is a small, scenic pocket that rewards people who do not mind trading convenience for calm.
