Hercules by the Bay is one of the standout corners of the city, a bay-facing neighborhood right beside the historic Waterfront and the old powder-works townsite. It is among the more walkable pockets in Hercules, with the shoreline, the Bay Trail, and the emerging Bayfront district all close at hand. This is Hercules leaning into its best asset, the water. You can get out on the Bay Trail on foot, the open bay and shoreline parks frame the western edge, and the city's long-planned intermodal transit hub, the future Capitol Corridor train stop with bus and ferry connections, is taking shape just up the shore. It is the part of town built around being outside and near the water rather than around the freeway. The catch is that the Bayfront is still a work in progress, so some of the promised polish and the train service are future-tense, not present-day. Even so, for a waterfront address in west Contra Costa, this is one of the genuine ones.
