Imperial Estates is a small residential tract in the far northern tip of Long Beach, up near the Carson and Compton borders where the city narrows toward the Los Angeles River and the 91 and 710 freeways. It is a modest, flat neighborhood of postwar single-family homes, somewhat removed from the rest of Long Beach and oriented as much toward its neighboring cities for shopping and services. The location is industrial-edged and freeway-adjacent, which keeps prices among the most attainable in the city and puts regional connections close. There is no retail or park core inside the boundary, so daily life runs to the surrounding arterials.
