Las Animas is a north-central neighborhood whose best feature is right at its doorstep: Las Animas Veterans Park, the 23-acre community park along Mantelli Drive with ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, a skate facility, and walking paths that stay lit for night play. For a mid-priced part of Gilroy, that's a real amenity to have on the western edge. The neighborhood runs east to Monterey Road, the city's main north-south spine, with Wren Avenue closing it off to the south. The homes are established rather than new, and prices sit toward the more accessible end of the Gilroy range, which is part of the appeal. Day to day, you're close to the park and to Monterey Road's services, though the rest of your errands still mean a short drive. The mix of a genuine community park on one side and a main arterial on the other gives Las Animas more going on outdoors than its quiet residential streets first suggest.
