Lomas Verdes is one of the early Otay Ranch neighborhoods in eastern Chula Vista, laid out along East Palomar Street between Heritage on the west and Eastlake on the east. Otay Ranch began selling homes in 1999 near Telegraph Canyon Road and spread south from there, which puts this area in the first wave. Houses here are mostly two-story stucco on modest lots, set on curving streets that end in cul-de-sacs, with some attached homes mixed in. The look is consistent from block to block, with tile roofs and small front yards. Most of it went up in the early 2000s, so the streets have had time to settle in. Cottonwood Park on East Palomar is the main gathering spot, a city community park with three reservable gazebos, a tot lot and restrooms. Breezewood Park and Santa Cora Park are smaller neighborhood greens set among the houses. Harvest Park sits just over the line in Heritage. The one shopping center in Lomas Verdes, on East Palomar, covers more ground than its size suggests. Casa Nori is a sushi bar with a seaweed theme and an afternoon happy hour menu. Fresheria, a small chain that started in La Jolla, does smoothies, acai bowls, tortas and chilaquiles, and it pours coffee and juice from early in the day. For a full grocery run, people head to the Walmart on Eastlake Parkway or the Vons on Otay Lakes Road, both a quick drive. The Rapid 225 bus stops at a Lomas Verdes station on its route between the Otay Mesa Transit Center and downtown San Diego, running every 20 to 30 minutes on weekdays, which makes this one of the few east side neighborhoods with a real transit option. Beyond that one center, there is little to walk to, and dinner out usually means driving into Eastlake or down to the Otay Ranch Town Center. In exchange, the streets stay quiet. Lomas Verdes feels settled in a way the newer villages to the south have not had time to become.
