The Peninsula is a narrow finger of land at the southeastern tip of Long Beach, wrapped by the Pacific on one side and the calm waters of Alamitos Bay on the other, with boardwalks instead of front yards. Nearly every home sits a few steps from the sand, and buyers essentially choose their water: the ocean side offers open surf and wide beach, while the bay side is calmer, with docks and views of moored boats. It is a luxury neighborhood of beach houses on small, tightly packed lots, and one of the most expensive corners of the city. Because there is essentially one way in and one way out, it stays quiet and free of through-traffic, tucked away even though Belmont Shore's Second Street is minutes off the peninsula. The tradeoffs are price, small lots, and summer beach crowds. For living directly on the sand, the Peninsula is about as close as Long Beach gets.
