Reseda grew up around the corner of Sherman Way and Reseda Boulevard, and that crossroads is still the center of this Valley neighborhood of Los Angeles. Most homes date from the postwar boom that swept away the lettuce and walnut farms in the late 1940s and 1950s. Expect single-story ranch houses and stucco bungalows on flat grid streets, with apartment buildings along Sherman Way, Vanowen Street and the other big boulevards. The main park is the neighborhood's backyard, with a small lake and duck pond, a pool, courts and picnic areas on Victory Boulevard. Randal D. Simmons Park adds a playground and walking paths on the east side. For hills, the Santa Monica Mountains trails in Tarzana and Encino are a short drive south. The food reflects a mix of Vietnamese, Israeli, Persian, Central American and Mexican cooking. Vinh Loi Tofu on Sherman Way serves vegan Vietnamese dishes, with a peanut soup and a lemongrass banh mi that critics single out. The Canby on Vanowen Street is the neighborhood dive, and Copper Bucket pours cocktails a little farther east. Driving makes errands easy, with JONS on Sherman Way and Vons and Albertsons on the western side. The Metro G Line stops here, and in 2024 the main boulevard gained a long protected bike lane that makes cycling to Northridge practical. The old theater is still closed, and the core around it mixes independent shops with aging strip centers while a food hall and microcinema plan works through city approvals. For now, the park lake at dusk is where Reseda slows down, with ducks settling onto the water a short walk from that dark marquee.
