Sawmill is one of the smaller names on the south shore map, a hillside pocket above the Upper Truckee corridor that stretches down along Sawmill Road. The elevation buys outlooks toward the Echo Summit wall and a position handy to both Meyers and the Y, with county rules applying. Being county rather than city matters here the way it does in Meyers and Christmas Valley: different rental rules, different permitting, and a slightly different rhythm to who owns and who stays. It is a quiet, low-inventory corner with no amenities of its own, which suits the people who found it. Most south shore residents could not point to it on a map, and its owners are in no hurry to fix that.
