Somersville takes its name from one of the old coal-mining towns that once dotted the hills south of Pittsburg, California, and the modern neighborhood carries that history at its back. Somersville Road runs south from town toward the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve, so trailheads, ridgelines, and a genuinely unusual slice of California mining history are close at hand. The homes lean newer and hillside, part of the southern build-out near the San Marco area, with the open foothills as a backdrop. The tradeoff is the familiar hill-country one: you are a drive from the freeway, shopping, and the rest of Pittsburg, and the southern roads can feel remote after dark. Prices have edged up and run a touch ahead of the immediate amenities. For buyers who want newer homes, elevation, and weekend access to one of the East Bay's most distinctive open spaces, Somersville makes a strong case.
