Southwest Annex is the lower reach of Richmond's long Annex tail, the slice that runs down alongside El Cerrito toward the Albany border. Like the rest of the Annex, it lives more like its southern neighbors than like central Richmond: a quiet residential grid of mid-century bungalows and small ranch homes on tidy lots, close to the El Cerrito and Albany lines. The location is the real value here. El Cerrito Plaza BART is within reach for a quick ride into Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco, the shops and restaurants of Solano Avenue and El Cerrito Plaza are nearby, and the neighborhood sits at the more walkable, transit-friendly end of Richmond. Some addresses even carry El Cerrito postal designations despite being inside the city. The honest note is that this is a small, modest pocket without much of a commercial center of its own, so you lean on neighboring El Cerrito and Albany for shopping and dining. What you get is bungalow character and genuine transit access at prices below the El Cerrito neighborhoods right across the line.
