The Astronauts is one of Hercules's themed subdivisions, and this one names its streets for astronauts and the space program. It sits on the eastern, bay-and-freeway side of the city near the Victoria by the Bay area, a planned tract of looping residential streets close to the shoreline. The position is built for commuting and for the water. I-80 is right there for the run to Oakland and San Francisco, WestCAT's transbay service picks up in this part of town, and the Bay Trail and San Pablo Bay shoreline are close. The streets themselves are calm cul-de-sac territory, which keeps traffic down inside the neighborhood. The tradeoff is the same one the whole east side carries: this is among the least walkable pockets in Hercules, so everyday errands all involve the car, and the freeway that makes the commute easy also sits close enough to be heard. The space-age street names, though, are a fun bit of local character you will not find in the next town over.
