West Woodland is the part of Woodland with the most parks on its map, with Ferns Park, Woodside Park, Dave Douglass Park, Schneider Park, Wayne Cline Park, Harris Park, Jeff Roddy Memorial Park and Holding Pond Park all inside its boundary. Most are small neighborhood greens, so an evening loop can take in three or four of them without a car. Houses sit on subdivision streets that run back from the commercial stretch along West Main Street. The feel is more suburban than the downtown grid, with wider streets and more space between buildings. West Woodland has the longest restaurant list in town because the Main Street strip is crowded with franchises, but the local places stand out. Corkwood Restaurant is a sit-down option, Sakura Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi covers teppanyaki and rolls, and Brown's Corner Bar & Grill is the sports bar. Taqueria Guadalajara and Chido Restaurant Bar do Mexican food, Mother India Cuisine does Indian, and Dulce Vida by Quetzal is the ice cream stop. Peet's Coffee is the coffee shop. Errands are the strength of the district. Raley's on West Main, Sun Foods, La Superior Mercados and a Walmart Neighborhood Market are all inside it. The Shipley Walters Center for Yolo County Archives and Library Services and the Yolo County Library also sit here, which gives the district its civic side. Getting around is by car for most trips, since the shopping is spread along the arterial and the park pockets sit between subdivisions. Yolobus runs through the city, and Route 113 is the quick way to Davis. Most of the dining along Main is franchise fast food, so the local favorites take some picking out of the list. A Dulce Vida cone and a lap through two or three of the parks is about as good an introduction to West Woodland as the place offers.
