Spring Lake is a newer part of Woodland where subdivisions meet open farmland, with a pedestrian path, a pair of parks and a nature preserve at its edge. Jack Slaven Park, at 1705 Miekle Avenue, anchors the neighborhood, and a one-mile footpath called Spring Lake Alley connects it to Farmers Central Road. The homes here are recent compared with the rest of Woodland, built as the city expanded outward and formed districts to cover new developments. That makes the area one of the younger parts of the city, set apart from the older grid downtown. The Woodland Regional Park Preserve, at 2749 Brookshire Circle, covers 160 acres where seasonal wetlands give way to alkali prairie, and sits just beyond the boundary. It is open until six in the evening and gives Spring Lake a stretch of wild ground to walk, unlike the manicured parks elsewhere in town. The city finished the park improvements around Jack Slaven Park in February 2024, so the equipment and paths are recent. Walking the footpath from the park north to Farmers Central Road covers about a mile. Inside the boundary there is little to eat, but the shopping area right next door in Gibson Ranch fills the gap. Starbucks, Kuji Asian Grill, Falafel Corner, Iguana's Mexican Grill and Mongolian Fire all sit a short distance away, and Raley's Supermarkets and Bel Air are close for groceries. Daily life here is by car, since the stores are across the commercial strip rather than on residential streets. Yolobus runs through Woodland, though most trips from here go by car. New neighborhoods like this one lack the old buildings and established trees that make downtown Woodland feel settled. Main Street, with its cafes and theaters, is farther across town and takes a real drive. What stays with people here is how quickly the street ends and the field begins.
