Historic Core sits beside downtown Woodland and holds the older residential streets, a handful of small parks and a couple of museums that people drive across town to see. It reads as the lived-in side of the old center, with Main Street's end of the grid running through it. Houses here are older than most of what has been built since, and Woodland's Victorian-era architecture is the thread that ties the district to the downtown next door. Newer commercial buildings sit among them along the main roads, so a block of older houses can end at a drive-through. That mix gives the streets a layered look rather than a single era. For parks, City Park, Everman Park and Southland Park are all inside Historic Core, which is more green space than most Woodland neighborhoods manage. Reiff's Gas Station Museum is the oddest stop, a collection of antique gas pumps, signs and a mid-century diner set that visitors come to Woodland for. On Main Street, Pete's Restaurant & Brewhouse is the sit-down pizza and beer place, and the Thirsty Goat is the neighborhood bar at 102 Main. Crazy Bakery handles pastries and cakes, and Max Taste Lahorian Grill and Pupusería La Chicana add South Asian grill plates and Salvadoran pupusas to the same stretch. Marble Slab Creamery and a Dutch Bros are the quick sweet and caffeine stops. Nugget Markets is the grocery store inside the district, so a weekly shop does not require leaving it. Downtown's restaurants, the Strand and the farmers market are next door, and Yolobus serves the area. Traffic is the cost of living near so many amenities. Main Street carries cars and trucks through the district all day, and the chain restaurants along it add turning movements to blocks that were laid out long before drive-throughs. Reiff's Gas Station Museum and City Park share Historic Core, which says a fair amount about how it mixes the old and the everyday.
