Beamer Park is the Woodland neighborhood that holds Velocity Island Park, a lakefront water park, along with the namesake park and Christiansen Park. It sits beside downtown and mixes recreation with a handful of restaurants and small markets. Housing here is close to the commercial and civic blocks, so the area reads as a blend of everyday streets, shops and attractions rather than a single subdivision. Recreation is the identity more than the architecture. The HIVE Tasting Room and Kitchen, on Harter Avenue, calls itself the biggest honey and mead tasting space in the state, with a farm-to-fork menu and an outdoor patio. The Elephant Shack Deli Cafe, Ranch Kitchen and Casa Jalisco are lunch counters and sit-down options, Edgewater Coastal Bar & Grill is the bar and grill, and IHOP covers breakfast. Davis Creamery, in Armfield, is close for dessert. On weekend afternoons, the Museum of Biblical Archaeology on North West Street is open from one to four, an unusual stop for a residential area. Beamer Park and Christiansen Park are the neighborhood's own greens, and Schneider Park in West Woodland is nearby. Errands run through small specialty markets. Z Specialty Food and Del Valle Foods are inside the boundary, and Nugget Markets, from the Historic Core next door, is the full-size grocery stop. Downtown's cafes, theaters and the Saturday farmers market at Heritage Plaza are a short bike ride away. Yolobus covers the bus side, and Sacramento is reached by freeway. The grocery list is the weak spot. Inside the boundary it is specialty shops rather than a full supermarket, so a weekly shop means a drive or a bike ride to the next neighborhood. A water park, a mead hall and a biblical archaeology museum on one side of town makes this one of the harder Woodland neighborhoods to sum up in a sentence.
