Gibson Ranch is mostly a commercial district in Woodland, home to the shopping centers and restaurants that serve the whole city and much of Yolo County. It is not a neighborhood in the usual sense, and anyone looking for a quiet residential block will find few here. The land is given over to stores, restaurants and a pair of museums. Raley's Supermarkets, two Nugget Markets and Food 4 Less cover groceries, and the Costco warehouse sits just outside the boundary on Bronze Star Drive, where it anchors a shopping center of three dozen or so stores. Eating is the main draw. Ludy's BBQ and Catering is the local barbecue name, Falafel Corner serves Middle Eastern plates, Top Himalaya covers Indian food, and Yolo Ice & Creamery handles dessert. Starbucks and Dutch Bros are the coffee stops. Applebee's, Denny's and a long row of fast-food places fill out the rest of the list, with Kuji Asian Grill and Mongolian Fire as the pan-Asian choices. Two museums set Gibson Ranch apart from other shopping districts. The Hays Antique Truck Museum and the California Agriculture Museum cover antique trucks and farm history, and both tie the commercial strip back to the valley farmland that surrounds the city. For outdoor time, Pioneer Park and the Dick Klenhard Ballfield Complex are inside the boundary, and the parks of Spring Lake are next door to the shopping. Getting around is by car, and the parking lots are the main feature of the streetscape. Yolobus serves the city for those who do not drive, and the stores are spread too widely for a comfortable walk between them. That is the plain tradeoff of a district built around retail, since it rewards shopping trips more than strolling. The museums are the part of the area that ties it back to the farmland around town.
