Chelsea by the Bay is about as far west as Hercules goes, a settled residential pocket pressed up against the San Pablo Bay shoreline. The homes here run to competitively priced midsize houses, and the whole area trades on being close to the water without the price tag of the marquee bayfront blocks. The everyday draw is the shoreline. The Bay Trail and the open bay are within easy reach, the streets stay quiet because the neighborhood is tucked at the edge of the city rather than on a through-route, and the newer Bayfront district and its long-planned transit hub are just up the shore. It is a calm, west-facing corner with real access to the water. What it is not is walkable to shopping. Like most of Hercules, daily errands mean a drive back toward San Pablo Avenue. The payoff for that is the setting: a quieter, bay-adjacent address in a city that does not have many of them at this price.
