Martis Camp is what happens when a developer decides money is no object and the mountain agrees. DMB built it on the old Siller Ranch starting around 2006, threaded a Tom Fazio golf course through the pines by 2008, and in 2012 cut a private chairlift, the Martis Camp Express, straight into Northstar so members ski over without ever touching Highway 267. The roughly 50,000-square-foot Camp Lodge anchors it, and there is a family barn with bowling and a soda fountain, a theater, and an amphitheater, because of course there is. Homes are large custom builds on forested lots behind a staffed gate, and memberships pass down through generations, which is the real pitch: this is a legacy buy, not a starter cabin. The Sierra Sun has called a sale here, Martis Camp Home 627, the area's all-time record at $23.6 million. The honest part: this is the ceiling of the Truckee market, membership and transfer fees stack on top of the price, everything runs on propane, and 267 still bottlenecks toward Northstar on a powder morning. Wonderful if privacy is the whole point, isolating if it is not.
