Pacific Edison, Glendale, CA

Pacific Edison in Glendale is a south-side neighborhood of Craftsman and Spanish style homes bounded by busy corridors like Colorado Street and Central Avenue, with Pacific Park and its library as the community's living room. Older single-family homes are the heart of Pacific Edison. Craftsman bungalows and Spanish style houses from the early twentieth century still hold many blocks, and the area has one of the higher concentrations of Craftsman buildings left in the city. Apartment buildings from the 1960s and later sit between them, especially near Central and Brand. Pacific Community Center and Park on South Pacific Avenue is the main gathering spot, with the Pacific Park branch library in the same complex. For longer walks, the river path and Griffith Park lie a few minutes west. Foxy's Restaurant on West Colorado is a retro diner known for its big Mexican breakfast menu. Mini Kabob, a short walk away on Vine Street, is the tiny counter critics credit with the city's best Armenian kebab, and Colorado Bakery on West Colorado handles bread and pastries. Daily errands run along Colorado and Central, and the Galleria and downtown Glendale are a short drive or a long walk north. The tradeoff is traffic on Colorado and Central and blocks where new apartment buildings have changed the scale of the street. Pacific Edison's older homes still come with front porches facing the street, and a block or two in from Colorado the noise of the boulevards drops away.
