Proud Country is a late-1960s and early-1970s neighborhood in the Springtown area of north Livermore, around 200 homes of single-story ranch on surprisingly generous lots, many in the 7,000-to-9,000 square-foot range. For modestly sized homes, the yards are a real selling point, and the prices land among the more attainable in the city. The neighborhood is part of the broader Springtown community that grew up around a public golf course in the 1960s. That course closed in 2015 and is being converted into the Springtown open space, which over time adds protected green land to a part of town that historically leaned on the links for its open feel. This is unpretentious north Livermore. You will drive for shopping and you are a haul from downtown and the wineries, but the lots are roomy, the streets are calm, and Proud Country remains one of the more sensible entry points into Livermore homeownership.
