Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review

The Woods sounds like a description and is actually a signature: the name honors Art Wood, the Oklahoma developer who bought roughly 9,000 acres of George Whittell's shoreline empire and willed Incline Village into existence in 1960. His family is all over the street signs here, Gary Way and Pat Court for his sons, Betty Lane for the housekeeper he brought from Oklahoma City, McCourry Street for co-founder James McCourry. It is also where Incline keeps its everyday life. Incline High School sits inside the neighborhood, Preston Field is minutes out, the terrain is low and gentle, and the year-round share of households runs higher than anywhere in the village. School mornings here actually look like school mornings. The housing is modest by Incline standards, which still means ordinary mountain homes that would headline in most towns. This is the closest thing to a value play the village offers, and locals know it, so well-kept listings do not linger. What you give up is drama. No lake panoramas, no fairway frontage, smaller lots than the upper slopes. In exchange you get the shortest snow-shovel season in town and neighbors who are home in October.
