Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review
Key Words: Regional Park, Nature Center, Open Space

This entry covers El Dorado Regional Park itself, not a residential neighborhood but the largest park in Long Beach and one of the biggest in the region. Stretching across hundreds of acres on the east side of the city, split by the San Gabriel River and the 605, it bundles fishing lakes, miles of paved trails, ball fields and courts, picnic areas, an archery range, and the 105-acre El Dorado Nature Center, an oasis of woodland, streams, and wildlife threaded with dirt trails. For the surrounding neighborhoods it is the defining amenity, the reason the broader El Dorado area is consistently among the most prized parts of the city. There is essentially no housing inside the park boundary; its value to nearby buyers is access, the rare luxury of a major regional park and nature preserve at the end of the street. As a place, it is green space first, utilitarian in its parking lots and grand in its open acreage.
