Point Richmond is the part of the city that feels like its own small town, and locals will tell you it basically is. Wrapped along the bay near the foot of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, the old village center on Washington Avenue is a walkable cluster of Victorian storefronts, cafes, galleries, and a couple of bars that have been there forever. The historic district has been on the National Register since the 1970s, and the hillside streets above it are stacked with vintage homes that turn over rarely and get snapped up fast when they do. The water defines daily life here. Keller Beach and the trails of Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline are minutes away, the Brickyard Cove marina sits just through the tunnel, and the whole peninsula has a genuine artist-and-sailor streak you do not find in the rest of Richmond. The Plunge, the restored 1920s indoor pool, is the kind of landmark people organize their week around. The honest caveats: inventory is thin and pricing reflects the charm, the Chevron refinery sits to the north, and parking around the village gets tight on event nights. None of it scares off the people who want in.
